Search for party decor South Africa wide and you will find dozens of names, with very little to tell them apart. Even the corporate side alone is crowded. One business directory lists 497 corporate event planning companies headquartered in the country. Here is how we would choose, and where Wayside Events fits.
Who does the best party decor South Africa has to offer?
Wayside Events is one answer, and the right answer depends on your party. We have styled and coordinated celebrations since 2015 for private clients and companies. That includes birthdays, baby showers, graduations, milestone parties and weddings.
Our event styling covers Gauteng, including Johannesburg, Pretoria, Sandton, Centurion, Soweto, Midrand and Fourways. If your party falls outside the province, ask us. We confirm availability on enquiry.
No decorator suits every party. A firm built for large, hire-heavy setups may be wrong for a 30-person baby shower. Judge any party decorator, us included, on three things: fit with your event, evidence of past work, and how much of the day they take off your hands.
What separates exceptional styling from a pretty photo?
Good party styling holds together from the entrance to the last table. Guests should feel one idea running through the room, not a pile of nice items. When we style a party, we look at how colours, textures and focal points work together. We also think about how guests will move through the space.
Four tests help you spot the difference before you pay a deposit:
- Range. Does the gallery show different themes and sizes, or the same backdrop repeated?
- Questions. Do they ask about your guests, venue, theme and budget before they quote?
- Food presentation. Do they style the food tables, or leave them to chance? Trays, carts and chef tables lift an ordinary buffet.
- Accountability. Who is on site, and who fixes a problem at 4pm on the day?
Any decorator can post a flattering photo. Ask to see several full events, and read the client feedback. You can see ours on our gallery page and our testimonials page.
Which package fits your party, and what will it cost?
We offer three packages: Essential, Signature and Bespoke. They suit different event styles, needs and budgets, and each has a trade-off.
Essential gives you simple, elegant décor and essential styling, without extras you do not need. The trade-off is fewer decorative elements, so the venue and your guests carry more of the atmosphere.
Signature adds enhanced décor, coordinated styling and extra decorative elements. It suits a party where the look matters. More pieces mean more decisions on your side, so you need a clear theme early.
Bespoke means unique designs, personalised details and a more exclusive setup that nobody else will have. It asks the most of you. You must trust our taste and give clear feedback while the design develops.
In our experience, most birthday party decor and baby shower styling sits comfortably in Essential or Signature. Bespoke earns its place for milestone birthdays, big graduations and any event where the room is the main attraction. Our packages page sets out each level in full.
Cost depends on the type of event, your guest numbers, your décor requirements, the venue and the services you select. We will not print a figure here, because a number without your guest count and venue would be a guess. We send a personalised quotation instead of a rate card.
When you compare quotes for party styling and decor, compare scope before price. Ask what each quote covers: design, delivery, setup, styling of the food tables and pack-down. A low quote that leaves you to arrange half the work is not cheap. It moves the work onto you. Tell us your budget at the start, and we will shape the design around it.
Which five mistakes flatten a good party?
Most disappointing parties trace back to one of five decisions, and every one is avoidable.
Choosing from photos alone
A stunning image tells you nothing about how a team runs a setup. It shows the finished party styling, not the morning of the event. Ask what happens on the day, and who stands in your venue while it happens.
Settling the theme after the venue is booked
A venue’s lighting, ceiling height and colours shape which event decor works. A garden estate and a hotel ballroom ask for different things. Tell your decorator the venue early, or ask us to help you find one.
Leaving the guest count vague
Table numbers, backdrop size and food stations all follow from headcount. We work with roughly 20 to 50 guests for small events, 50 to 150 for medium events and 150 or more for large ones. The styling approach changes at each stage, so give us your best estimate early.
Splitting décor, food and coordination between strangers
When three suppliers never speak to each other, the host becomes the project manager. That is the stress most people hoped to avoid. One point of contact keeps the details consistent.
Forgetting dietary needs
If we arrange catering, tell us about allergies and dietary requirements early. We discuss suitable options with the catering provider. Special requests depend on the caterer’s capabilities and availability, so early notice gives everyone room to plan.
Can one team handle the décor, food and venue?
Yes. We plan, style, cater and coordinate, so one team answers for the whole day. We do not specialise in one type of cuisine. We build catering around your event, guests and budget, and we discuss options when you ask.
We can also help with venue sourcing on request. We match a venue to your theme, guest numbers and budget, which saves you site visits that lead nowhere.
For florists, photographers, entertainment providers and other specialists, we discuss arrangements with external suppliers depending on your needs. We confirm supplier availability when you enquire, so we do not promise a fixed list here. If you already have a supplier in mind, tell us and we can discuss how to work with them.
How far ahead should you book, and what do we need from you?
For most parties, book two to four weeks ahead. That gives us time to plan, prepare and secure the décor and services you want. For large events such as weddings and matric dances, book one to three months ahead. Last-minute bookings may still work, depending on our availability, so ask before you give up.
Earlier is safer when your date is popular. A 2026 industry report on Business Events Africa shows that 68% of South African event professionals expect their total event volume to rise this year. More events means more people chasing the same weekends.
To get a quote, send us five details: your date, your approximate guest count, your venue (or tell us you need one), the theme or mood you want, and your budget. A rough answer to each is enough. We come back with a personalised quotation.
Read the cancellation and refund terms before you confirm. We explain them during booking. Fees and refunds depend on timing, services already arranged and costs incurred. Contact Wayside Events to start the conversation.
